Aussie success at US Open qualifying

US Open sectional qualifying is billed as golf's longest day and there are 21 Australians who can attest to that after trying their luck early today.
36-hole events took place at 10 venues around the US with three Australians making it through and four more having to wait until tomorrow because of a weather delay.
Rod Pampling finished one under for the 36 holes in Ohio to claim one of the 17 spots on offer while Anthony Summers Anthony Summers fired brilliant rounds of 66 and 67 to win the qualifier in Chicago.
Alistair Presnell triumphed in a play-off in Texas over one of that state's most talented and popular amateurs, Jordan Spieth, with a birdie at the third play-off hole.
Gavin Coles, Nathan Green, Matt Jones and Steven Bowditch are in the field for the Memphis qualifier but the round was cancelled due to weather and will be played tomorrow.
The Australians who failed to qualify were:
Adam Crawford, Aaron Townsend, Mathew Goggin, Matt Guyatt, Nick O'Hern, Ashley Hall, Robert Allenby, Stuart Appleby, Bryden Macpherson, Marc Leishman (WD), Aron Price, Richard Swift, Jamie Arnold and Mitchell Krywulycz (WD).
Nine Australians will be flying the flag in San Francisco next week at this stage with Aaron Baddeley, Jason Day, Adam Scott, Brendan Jones, John Senden and Geoff Ogilvy all already exempt.
Best of luck to Nathan Green, Gavin Coles, Steven Bowditch and Matt Jones in their rounds tomorrow.
